Colorado Students Abuse ADD-ADHD Medication
Scripps Howard News Service reports that as many as one-third of students at a major U.S. university may be engaged in the abuse of Adderall, a popular ADD-ADHD medication.
Students use the amphetamine-based Adderall as a stimulant and study aid. Authorities believe the upswing in illicit Adderall use began approximately one and a half years ago.
The article notes that the stimulant effect of the drug is followed by a “major crash.” It notes side effects from Adderall use including “depression, irritability, cardiovascular problems, even psychotic episodes. As with other amphetamines, regular Adderall users can become addicted.”
