Conservative Author Sees Feminist Conspiracy in ADD-ADHD Drug Treatment
Bruce Shortt, author of The Harsh Truth About Public Schools, seems to believe the upswing in ADHD diagnoses and resulting medical treatment is less about neurodevelopmental problems and is more about politics.
A “review” of Shortt’s work by Steven Yates announces that the use of Ritalin and other ADHD medications is motivated by a desire to regulate naturally rambunctious boys in hopes of advancing a feminist political agenda.
Yates implies that ADD-ADHD is a recently “discovered” disease and that the discovery was motivated by left-wing politics.
The review, which is part of an ultra-conservative web site, illustrates just how much one’s outlook on the political world can influence their understanding of the medical world.
