FDA Will Not Ban ADD-ADHD Drug
Although Canadian authorities pulled Adderall off of the shelves after evidence linking the ADD-ADHD drug to deaths was unearthed, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has announced that it has no intentions of banning sales in the U.S.
The FDA has issued an advisory letter to U.S. healthcare providers alerting them to the Canadian decision and explaining their position on the medication.
The FDA letter states: "It does not appear that the number of deaths reported is greater than the number of sudden deaths that would be expected to occur in this population without treatment. For this reason, the FDA has not decided to take any further regulatory action at this time.”
There are over 700,000 Adderall users in the United States.
