Ritalin Equated to Russian Roulette
Samuel L. Blumenfield, an author of books on education, asserts that the use of Ritalin to treat children with ADD-ADHD is akin to playing Russian Roulette with the brain.
Blumenfield argues that the scientific community’s inability to determine exactly why Ritalin works to help mitigate ADD-ADHD symptoms, combined with its known side effects and other anecdotal evidence dejustify its use.
Blumenfield recommends a return to the style of schools utilized in the 1930s and 1940s as a means of decreasing attention deficit difficulties. He maintains that bare rooms, straight rows and a lack of distraction would be more effective than medical solutions to ADD-ADHD.
